* First Friday will be from 5 to 8 p.m. in the shops, galleries and restaurants along Gloucester and Newcastle streets. Sponsored by the Brunswick Downtown Development Authority. Details: 265-4032.

* First Friday Fun will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Brunswick Library, 208 Gloucester St., Brunswick. The event will feature crafts, entertainment and special activities for people of all ages.

* Opening reception for "Storybook Look," an exhibit of the original artwork, including 28 paintings, photos, cut paper/mixed media of 10 of the South's most notable children's book illustrators, will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ritz Theatre, 1530 Newcastle St., Brunswick. Sunday, Sept. 5

* Third Annual Churn-Off, an ice cream making competition and tasting, will begin at 4 p.m. at Ashantilly Center, Darien. Contestants should arrive no later than 3 p.m. Cost is $5 for two tastes; $10 for five tastes. The event will also feature live music. Details: 289-1144.

* A Little Light Music, featuring the Sensational Sounds of Motown, will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on the lawn of the St. Simons Lighthouse, 12th St. and Beachview Drive, St. Simons Island. Tuesday, Sept. 7

* "Kids for CASA" Christmas Card Reception will be from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at CASA Glynn, 1608A Newcastle St., Brunswick. Twelve Glynn County scholars will be honored for their artwork, used in the design of Christmas cards for CASA. Artists include Nautica Paige Watson, Stormy Michelle Rhodes, Sherry Marie Evors, Leigh Barber, Nick Lairsey, Madeline Barwick, Lauren Croft, Meghan Chitty, Peyton Strickland, Atticus Haley, Dylan McHugh and Eliana Page. Their original artworks will be on display Sept. 8 - 30 at the Southeast Georgia Health System Outpatient Care Center, 2500 Starling St., Brunswick. Details: 264-4448.
