McIntosh deputy injured
A McIntosh County Sheriff's deputy was taken to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah early Tuesday morning after his car left the roadway and crashed into a tree.

Lt. Kenny Williams was driving to work at 3:30 a.m. on Cox Road in Townsend when his car went off the road near Heron Bridge Road, according to Maj. Danny Lowe.

"It's still under investigation, so we don't know yet what happened," Lowe said.

Weather conditions were initially suspected to have contributed to the accident, but Lowe said the cause had not been determined.

"We initially thought it might be hydroplaning, but we went out there and there were no puddles," he said.

Hospital officials declined to release Williams' condition Tuesday, deferring to the sheriff's office.

Lowe did not have an immediate update for Williams' condition Tuesday, but said "he's going to have a long road to recovery."

Williams is the traffic lieutenant for the office.
