Library candidates hail from region
Three finalists for the St. Simons Public Library manager's position were interviewed Tuesday by the county library board of trustees' personnel committee.

All three finalists are from the region.

Jessica Miles of Baxley currently works as branch manager of the Appling County Public Library. Maureen Hersey of St. Simons Island is a former St. Simons Island Library employee who currently works at GJ Ford Bookshop. Rita Wright of Brunswick is the current manager of the Ida Hilton Public Library in Darien.

Each finalist met with personnel committee members separately at the Brunswick-Glynn County Library.

Candidates were asked, among other things, if they had any concerns about the two Glynn County libraries leaving the Three Rivers Library System on July 1 to become an independent, single-county library system. It's likely the library staff will become Glynn County employees.

The St. Simons Island Library and the Brunswick-Glynn County Library are the two facilities that will make up the new library system.

Joan Campbell, chairwoman of the library personnel committee, said she and other committee members met in closed executive session to discuss the merits of each candidate after the interviews. But they are not prepared to make a recommendation to the library board of trustees, which will make the final decision.

"The search committee needs to gather some more information," she said.
