Island properties earn 5-star rating
Two hotels, a spa and a restaurant operated by the Sea Island Co. in Glynn County were awarded five-star ratings.

The Cloiser at Sea Island and the Lodge at Sea Island Golf Club on St. Simons Island earned five-star ratings from Forbes Travel Guide.

Also receiving five stars at the Sea Island resort were the Georgian Room restaurant and The Spa.

Five stars is the highest ranking awarded to hotels, restaurants and spas.

"Receiving four Forbes Five-Star Awards in one year is extraordinary, and yet the team members at Sea Island have managed to do just that for five years in a row," said Scott Steilen, president of Sea Island Co., in a prepared statement. "In addition to having great pride in their achievement, we are also extremely grateful to every member of the team for the hard work and gracious hospitality shown to our guests and members every day."

Sea Island, a private, gated island accessible from St. Simons Island, is just one of a handful of resorts worldwide that has received the award for five years.

The Georgian Room, which was first given the award in 2008, is the only restaurant in the state with the five-star designation.

One other hotel in Georgia received the ranking -- Four Seasons Atlanta.

There are fewer than 10 five-star resorts on the East Coast between North Carolina and Florida. Having one in Glynn County brings fame, said Scott McQuade, executive director of the Brunswick Golden Isles Convention and Visitors Bureau.

"It is really a very special accolade," McQuade said. "It's probably one of the highest accolades one can receive. It does bring a whole other level of recognition to the Golden Isles."
