Police search for shooting suspect
Brunswick police are looking for a suspect who they say beat a man, shot him and then drove away in his vehicle in an apparent carjacking around midnight Wednesday.

According to a statement released by the Brunswick Police Department Friday, officers responded to an aggravated assault call in the 1000 block of Gordon Street from a man in his early 30s.

The victim told police he stepped out of a 2005 Toyota Solera to speak with someone, leaving the motor running. As he was getting back into the car to leave, a man wearing a mask entered his vehicle from the passenger side door.

The suspect began striking the man with an unknown object.

The victim told police he was defending himself when he heard the popping noise and felt a sudden burning sensation in his abdominal area.

Police did not disclose the caliber of the handgun used to shoot the driver.

The victim exited the vehicle and looked for help.

The suspect fled the scene in the victim's car.

The victim was transported to Southeast Georgia Health System's hospital in Brunswick for treatment of a gunshot wound and was listed in stable condition Friday.

The two-door Solera is silver in color with green lettering on the rear windshield.

Anyone with information on the carjacking is asked to call Brunswick Police Detective Angela Smith at 267-5091 or 267-5099.
