Rockin' Stewbilee begins tomorrow
The 14th Annual Brunswick Rockin' Stewbilee is just one day away, but there's still plenty of time to get in on the fun.

The festival, which includes a 5K race, pooch parade, children's games, arts and crafts, live music and Brunswick stew tasting, is Saturday at Mary Ross Waterfront Park.

Runners can sign up for the 5K race at Mary Ross Waterfront Park from 4 to 7 p.m. today and from 7 to 8:15 a.m. Saturday. Entry fee is $25 per runner.

The race will start at the park at 8:30 a.m.

The school organization, business or group with the most participants in the run will win $500 in cash.

Information on the 5K run is available at goldenislestrackclub.com

Sign up for the pooch parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the corner of Bay and Gloucester streets. Registration is $10 for the first dog and $5 for any additional dog.

Owners and their pets must be in costume to vie for one of several awards that will be presented after the parade. Awards will be given for Best Costume, Best Large and Small dog costume, Best Dog and Owner Costume and People's Choice Award.

Proceeds from the Pet Supplies Plus Pooch Parade will go to the Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia and Glynn County Animal Services.

Tickets to sample the many varieties of Brunswick stew can be purchased by adults and children at the waterfront park.

Stew sampling will commence at 11 a.m. and will go on until 2 p.m., with live music to be provided by WharfRatz and Backbeat Boulevard. Chefs and teams will be competing for first, second and third place honors in the People's Choice and Judge's awards.

Proceeds from ticket sales for stew tasting will go to support the nonprofit Boys and Girls Club.

Other activities planned at the city waterfront are the Kids Junior Stewbilee Central, which will feature games, and a classic and antique car show, which is open for participation.

Arts and crafts also will be set up around the city park.
