Forum to talk veterans education
If you're a veteran, the College of Coastal Georgia wants you on its campus, especially today.

The student Veterans Academic Learning Opportunities and Resources group, better known as VALOR, and the Academic Tutor and Instruction Center at the college will host a forum, Education Issues Affecting Veterans, from 1 to 4 p.m. in Stembler Theatre.

The college has a goal of becoming a welcoming environment for military veterans who desire to enhance their education or start fresh, says John Cornell, the college's public relations director.

It is one of the goals of the new president of the college, Greg Aloia.

"Dr. Aloia wants to make sure we took care of our veterans in the area and make the school accessible and obstacle-free for our veterans to come to campus and work towards a degree," Cornell said. "We feel this is just one more step towards that."

During the day, there will be a panel discussion, information tables and campus tours for veterans, current service members and their families.

After the event, guests are invited to attend the men's basketball game at 4 p.m. for free with a military ID.

"Our tutors and many of the staff will go through a training and informational session that morning beforehand, too, which will include information on veteran's issues," Cornell said. "Let us know how best we can take care of them.

"They allow us the opportunity to be here. We want to give back to them by making their educational process as easy and streamlined as possible."
