Today last day to vote early
Today is the final day to cast an early ballot before the city of Brunswick's municipal election Tuesday.

As of 4:15 p.m. Thursday, 302 people had cast early ballots and 112 had returned absentee ballots in nonpartisan races for mayor and North and South ward commissioners, Glynn County Board of Elections supervisors said.

A referendum on whether stores should be allowed to sell alcoholic beverages on Sundays also is on the ballot.

Early voting at the Glynn County Board of Elections, 1815 Gloucester St., Brunswick, is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.

Elections Supervisor Cindy Johnson estimated the elections staff has mailed about 200 absentee ballots. They must be returned by 7 p.m. Tuesday, when Election Day polls close.

Voting precincts will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at College Place United Methodist Church, 3890 Altama Ave., Howard Coffin Park, 1402 Sonny Miller Way, and Burroughs Molette Elementary School (FACES wing), 1900 Lee St.

Candidates for mayor are Cornell Harvey, Zack Lyde, Valerie Scriven and Starling Sutton.

North Ward commission candidates are Gary Cook, Neil Foster and Vincent Williams.

South Ward commission candidates are James Brooks, Felicia Harris and Emmitt Nolan. Brooks and Nolan are listed on the ballot as incumbents. Nolan was appointed to replace Brooks while Brooks is suspended from the commission until the outcome of a trial set to begin Dec. 16 on influence peddling charges.

Voters will vote in all races regardless of where they live.

A government-issued ID is required to vote early on Tuesday. No identification is required to obtain an absentee ballot. A runoff election will be Dec. 3 if no candidate in the multi-candidate races receives at least 50 percent of the vote.
