By BRANDEE A. THOMASThe Brunswick NewsChristian churches in Brunswick and the Golden Isles and worldwide are excitedly preparing this week for one of the most significant events in their religion Easter Sunday, the day they celebrate the joyous resurrection of Jesus Christ. But some will observe another event today that is just as important: Good Friday."Good Friday is the day that Christ was crucified on the cross for the redemption of sins," says Jonie Crews, education specialist at First Baptist Church, 708 Mansfield St., Brunswick. While members of the First Baptist Church will join most other Christians and observe the event privately, others will attend a special service that will be held in remembrance of the day Jesus was nailed to the cross.

This cross draped in purple cloth stands in front of St. Simons Presbyterian Church and is symbolic of Good Friday. (Michael Hall/The Brunswick News)
