Crawfish, music are draw

By CODY TRAWICKThe Brunswick NewsGiving back to the community is an act that residents of Woodbine hold near and dear. After all, that's the whole basis behind the community's Annual Crawfish Festival, according to Mark McAnaw, chairman of the event."All of the funds raised go directly back into the community," he said of the festivities today at Satilla Waterfront Park in Woodbine. "We have local civic groups that get involved, churches, Masons' groups; it's just a classic community tradition for us. This is our 23rd year."Today's festivities, which begin at 8 a.m., will feature a gaggle of vendors, arts and crafts exhibitions, gospel singing, food (even if for those who don't care too much for crawfish), line dancing exhibitions, and karate demonstrations.
And that's just to name a few."We have new people come and go every year, it changes every year. But you'll see a lot of people who are there every year, as well," said McAnaw. "And then there's the live entertainment, which we'll be featuring throughout the day."All in all, there's one thing McAnaw says he's looking forward to the most. "Good weather," he said. "I'm hoping it lasts."
Well, maybe not just one thing, he conceded."I'm really hoping people just come out and enjoy themselves during a time that's become so special for our community."Today's scheduleTo go to the Woodbine Crawfish Festival from Brunswick, exit Interstate 95 at Exit 14 and follow the signs to Woodbine.
