Traffic flow on Ga. 303 may change if the Glynn County Commission approves a measure to add a traffic signal in the area.

During its 6 p.m. meeting today, the commission will be asked to approve a construction contract for improvements to the intersection of Ga. 303 and Blythe Island Drive.

Jim Bruner, county engineer, said the improvements would include an acceleration and deceleration lane on Ga. 303 and a traffic signal at its intersection with Blythe Island Drive.

The improvements would also turn Cut Off Road into a right-turn-only roadway, which would force drivers wishing to turn left onto Ga. 303 to go to the traffic signal.

The improvements would be a joint venture between the county and the Georgia Department of Transportation.

GDOT has agreed to pick up $296,000 of the costs associated with the potential $643,000 project. The balance would be paid by the county.

The county received two bids for the project – one from B&B Builders out of Baxley and one from Seaboard Construction in Brunswick.

The Baxley company's $643,000 bid was nearly $100,000 lower than the local bid.

County staff is recommending that the commission accept the out-of-town company's bid.
