Thu, Jul 3, 2008
Dylan, a loggerhead turtle released in the ocean Monday by the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, is exploring the waters off Cumberland Island, said Stefanie Ouellette, education coordinator at the center. The turtle has spent her whole life in captivity and is "extremely curious about the new world she has been released into," Quellette said Monday. "It is perfectly normal." An online map linked to the tracking satellite on Dylan's shell showed Wednesday that the beloved sea turtle appeared to be heading back to her Jekyll Island home. However, the map is not exact, she said.
In the next few days, Oullette predicted, Dylan will begin to get hungry and will again head back to more open waters to feed.Crews complete Cumberland linesThe South Cut Fire, which burned over 1,604 acres of the north side of Cumberland Island, is 40 percent contained, said officials with the Georgia Forestry Commission.
