Thursday

* Literary Time Capsule will feature Ann Mason leading a discussion about the literature that made the biggest impression on participating readers. She will speak at 10:30 a.m. at the Old Jail Art Center, 404 Northway, Darien. Details: 437-7711.

* The Golden Isles Arts and Humanities will hold a Big Read Movie Night: The Bridge of San Luis Rey, a film based on the novel by Thornton Wilder. It will be shown at 7 p.m. at the Ritz Theatre, 1530 Newcastle St., Brunswick. Details: 262-6934.

Friday

* The Literary Guild of St. Simons Island's film series will present Richard Press's 2010 movie "Bill Cunningham New York" at 7 p.m. at St. Simons Island Casino Theater, 550 Beachview Drive, St. Simons Island. A $3 donations is requested to defray costs.

* Our Town: The Hidden Jewel Exhibit by local artists from McIntosh Art Association will have its opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Old Jail Art Center, 404 Northway, Darien.

Saturday

* The Seventh Annual Have A Heart for Manna House dinner-dance celebration will begin at 6 p.m. at Sea Palms Golf and Tennis Resort on St. Simons Island. The Jacquelyn Monroe Trio and the Mason Waters Groove Allstars will provide entertainment. There will also be a silent auction. Cost for tickets are $45 each, and includes dinner and dancing. Funds raised will benefit Manna House ministries. Tickets are limited and must be purchased ahead of time. There will be a cash bar. Call the Lord of Life office at 638-4673 to purchase tickets.

* The "Walking Tour of Our Town" event, hosted by the Big Read Committee of McIntosh County, will begin at 2:30 p.m. at the Old Jail Art Center, 404 North Way, Darien. Historian Buddy Sullivan will lead the tour. A $5 donation is requested. Details: 437-4473.

* Glynn Art Association, 529 Beachview Drive, St. Simons Island, will be hold an opening night reception for the exhibitions Expand Your Horizons and Seeing Is Believing from 5 to 7 p.m. at the gallery. Daily hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday.

Sunday

* The Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce will host its Fifth annual Salty Dog Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 10 at The Club at Bennie's Red Barn, St. Simons Island. The cost is $12 per person and includes food, music and silent auctions. All proceeds go towards Glynn County 4-H activities. Tickets can be purchased at Blue Sky Market in Brunswick, Pane in the Glass on St. Simons Island, or Tidelands Nature Center on Jekyll Island. Details: 638-8695.

* Left Bank Art Gallery will host the event, The Ritz visits the Mildred Huie Museum, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the museum, 3600 Frederica Road, Suite 13, St. Simons Island. Heather Heath, executive director for Golden Isles Arts and Humanities Executive Director, will discuss the significance of art and the humanities in the Golden Isles. She will also speak about the "The Big Read" program and its connection to theatre and the craft of acting. Reservations and a $5 donation are requested. Details: 638-3017.

* Joseph Pulitzer: Media Baron of Jekyll Island will feature award-winning biographer James McGrath Morris who will speak about the American mass media pioneer at 7 p.m. at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel, 371 Riverview Drive, Jekyll Island. The event is free but reservations are required. They may be made by calling 262-6934.

Friday to Feb. 16

* The CAPE Theater will host "Moonlight and Magnolias," a comic play by Ron Hutchinson about the making of "Gone with the Wind." It will be held at 6:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. It will be at 1:30 p.m. Sundays. All performances will be at Old City Hall in Brunswick. The $35 ticket price includes dinner and dessert by Indigo Coastal Shanty as well as wine. * Golden Isles Fiberarts Guild will have a bi-annual exhibition of "Butterflies and Dragonflies" from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday or by appointment in Art Downtown's SoGlo Gallery, 1413 Newcastle St., Brunswick. * The Oak Grove Island Artists' Guild will display their work titled Art from the Heart in the main hallway of the Brunswick-Glynn County Library, 208 Gloucester St., Brunswick. A portion of all sales will be donated to the American Heart Association. Works can be viewed from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. * Our Town: Faces and Places from Past to Present will feature local artists and students. The opening reception will be from 5 to 8 p.m. It will run through Feb. 23 at the Ritz Theatre in downtown Brunswick.

* Jekyll Island Art Association will feature six local artists in its exhibit titled, Coastal Art ... A Different View, at Goodyear Cottage, 321 N. Riverview Drive, Jekyll Island. The opening reception will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 3. Refreshments will be served. Works may be viewed from noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
