Glynn in upper half at 'Onion'

The Glynn Academy wrestling team finished ninth out of 27 teams at the Bulldog Sweet Onion Invitational in Lyons over the weekend.

The Red Terrors had three wrestlers place at the tournament. Divonte Reaves advanced to the championship round of the 220-pound weight class before losing to Commerce High's Chance McClure, who has never lost in two-plus years at the high school level. Reaves finished the tournament with a 2-1 record.

Glynn captain Kennith Newman-Sledge came through the consolation bracket in the 170 class to finish third. Sledge went 6-1 at the tournament.

Kinzer Matjazic had a 2-2 mark and finished fourth at 106.

Up next for Glynn is the Area 3-AAAAA traditional tournament Friday and Saturday at Effinghan County in Springfield where the top four wrestlers in each weight class qualify for the Class AAAAA East sectionals in Loganville.
