Police search for suspect in attempted robbery

By LOUIE BROGDON The Brunswick News

Glynn County police are looking for a man who is wanted in an attempted robbery and shooting Wednesday in Arco.

Lt. Tom Jump said Thursday 26-year-old Mitchel Banks of Glynn County told police he was driving down Ninth Street just before noon Wednesday when a man flagged him down at Ogg Avenue.

When Banks stopped to speak with the man, described as being in his early 20s, the man attempted to rob him, Jump said.

Banks resisted and during a short struggle, the suspect allegedly shot Banks in the leg with a revolver.

Police had not determined the caliber of the weapon Thursday.

"He shot him and then ran. He didn't get anything from (Banks)," Jump said.

Banks was taken to the Brunswick hospital at Southeast Georgia Health System, where he was treated and released for non-life threatening injuries, Jump said.

Police searched the area but failed to find the suspect.
